HPU 120 Administration Unit and HPU 240 Health Information Unit have been retired.  These HPUs can be accessed via Retired Health Planning Units webpage on this site.

Retirement of HPU 240 Health Information Unit:

As most services are transitioning to electronic medical records and the requirement for records storage areas is diminishing, the HPU 240 Health Information Unit is being retired.  Requirements to support associated staff work areas for health information staff, clinical coders etc. are planned in line with other staff work / administration areas.

Retirement of HPU 120 Administration Unit:

This HPU is being retired for the following reasons:

  • this guideline relates to the allocation of staff work areas which varies significantly between jurisdictions, e.g. in recent years some jurisdictions have moved to activity based working arrangements and have policies in place to guide this;
  • the planning for administration areas will largely be driven by the proposed staff profile for the specific project;
  • most AusHFG HPUs include a staff work area zone which can be referenced to provide spatial guidance based on a traditional allocation of offices, workstations, meeting rooms and associated support areas and staff amenities;
  • the AusHFG standard components provide design guidance relating to these areas, and the updated versions will acknowledge that reference to local jurisdictional approaches is required; and
  • Part C includes considerations relating to accessibility and WH&S.
