Bay - Linen

Additional Considerations:

• The bay may be enclosed with hinged doors, sliding doors or a roller shutter where items need to be secured or enclosed. An open bay is acceptable if a covered trolley is supplied (as required by local infection control policies).
• Where lockable, hinged doors are provided, hold open hardware may be required to support easy movement of the trolley in and out of the bay. Door protection to suit movement of beds and equipment in adjacent area.
• Where a roller shutter is provided, the weight of the shutter, manual handling requirements and minimising the noise of the shutter when opening are to be considered.
• If bay is enclosed, a light switch or sensor may be required to provide adequate lighting when linen stock is accessed.
• Storage for additional items such as pillows, shower curtains, privacy curtains, etc. may be provided as either joinery, a modular shelving system, a wall mounted panel with wire baskets or a mobile trolley. The storage solution will be dependent on items to be stored and if items need to be secured or covered due to infection control requirements. Inclusion of storage should consider size and manoeuvrability of the linen trolley to be used to ensure adequate clearance.
• Linen trolleys can vary in height and often require a cover that is lifted from the top. In this instance, shelving above the trolley is not recommended. If the trolley is of a suitable height and a shelf is provided, it is to be mounted no higher than 1800AFFL and the reach over trolley is to be considered.
• Hooks may be provided for clean linen bags and may be differentiated for clinical, general and patient's personal linen. Linen bags on hooks should be able to be accessed without moving the trolley.
• Bay - Linen may sometimes be combined with Bay - Blanket/Fluid Warmer (see Standard Component BBW for additional space, FF&E and services requirements).
