Content Update: Standard Components for Intensive Care

Date published 13/11/2025

Following extensive consultation with clinical and technical experts as well as consumer representatives, the Intensive Care Standard Components have been updated. Room layouts, FF&E and services have been updated to reflect contemporary operational models and design requirements.  All room names and sizes have been updated to align with the recently updated HPU 360 Intensive Care Unit.

The updated Standard Components include:

  • 1BR-ICU - 1-Bed Room - Intensive Care (previously 1BR-IC)
  • PTB-ICU - Patient Bay - Intensive Care (previously PBIC)

Key Updates:

  • The 2-arm pendant at the patient’s head is no longer configured to have a “wet” and “dry” side. To the extent possible, matching services are provided on both service heads of the pendent to support flexible configuration of medical equipment.
  • While the bed is shown in an orientation that supports quick access by staff to either side from the entry to the room, it is intended that the bed may be re-oriented to provide views to the window.  It is noted that the reach of pendants should support provision of clinical care when the bed is turned 90 degrees.
  • A door between pairs of 1 bed rooms has been indicated as optional. Provision of this door is to be confirmed at project level and inclusion depends on operational and staffing models, as well as local IP&C policies/risk assessments.
  • Clarification has been provided on the inclusion of a renal dialysis connection point and associated plumbing within bedrooms and bays. The wall box for renal dialysis is now shown as optional, as it may not be provided in every intensive care service, or in every bed/bay in an intensive care service. Additional detail on this has been provided in HPU 360 Intensive Care Unit.

Project Resources:

Updates to the above Standard Components are also reflected in the following updated Project Resources:

  • Standard Component Document Register
  • Standard Component File for Import
  • Item Control Schedule (Version 2.4).

Note: due to changes to the Room Data Sheet (RDS) content and format, the File for Import has been provided as two separate files. One file provides the information for the Standard Components that are still published in the old RDS format with the 1.11 codes, while the other provides information for the Standard Components that are now published in the new RDS format with the 2.4 codes. This will be updated progressively as Standard Components are reviewed and re-published until all Standard Components are provided in the new format.

Due to a model update that is in progress, an updated version of the AusHFG Model (Revit and IFC files) cannot be provided at this time.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

A thank you is extended to the many user representatives, jurisdictional representatives and consultants who have assisted in the review and production of these resources.

Kind regards,

AusHFG Team
