Content Update: Standard Components for Oral Health

AusHFG is pleased to announce the publication of the updated Oral Health Standard Components on the AusHFG website. 

This update has been informed by consultation with clinical, operational and technical experts, consumer representatives and jurisdictional stakeholders.  The updated Standard Components provide contemporary planning and design guidance for commonly used spaces within oral health units. The review also included consideration of dental instrument reprocessing requirements, including AS/NZ 5369, together with benchmarking of recently delivered facilities.

The updated set includes revised Standard Components for:

• TRMT-DEN1      Treatment Room - Dental, Type 1
• TRMT-DEN2      Treatment Room - Dental, Type 2
• LAB-DEN-MIN   Laboratory - Dental, Minor

Four new Standard Components have also been developed:

• DECON-SAT1   Decontamination Room - Satellite, Off-unit Reprocessing
• DECON-SAT2   Decontamination Room - Satellite, On-unit Reprocessing
• STERI-SAT       Packing and Sterilizing Room - Satellite
• ST-STL-GEN     Store - Sterile Stock, General

The new components provide additional guidance for dental instrument decontamination, sterilising and sterile storage, supporting contemporary reusable medical device reprocessing requirements.
