Home » News & Updates » Content Update: Standard Components for Operating Suites
Date published 09/05/2025

Following extensive consultation with clinical and technical experts, the Operating Suite Standard Components have been updated.  There has been a delay to publishing these following the Health Planning Unit publication due to a comprehensive audit and clean-up of the AusHFG Item Control Schedule and revised Room Data Sheet template for improved usability.

Key changes to the Operating Suite Standard Components include:

  • Improved clarity around medical services pendant requirements in the Operating Room - General and the Procedure Room - Endoscopy Standard Components.
  • Redesign of the Anaesthetic Preparation Room to improve space and equipment layout, ensure patient safety and support efficient workflows.
  • Development of the clean-up room to provide clear zones for cleaning equipment, waste management, and instrument decontamination. Considerations for distribution of fluid management systems between operating rooms have also been noted.
  • Creation of a new Standard Component for an Exit Bay to ensure requirements are considered and captured early by project teams.

The updated Standard Components include:

  • ANAES – Anaesthetic Preparation Room (previously ANAE-16)
  • B-SCRUB – Scrub Bay (previously SCRB-4)
  • CLNUP – Clean-up Room (previously CLUP-10)
  • STSS – Store - Sterile Stock (previously STSS-20)
  • OR-GEN – Operating Room – General (previously ORGN)
  • ENPR – Procedure Room - Endoscopy

The following Standard Component has been retired:

  • STSS-CC – Store - Sterile Stock, Central Core

Project Resources
Updates to the above Standard Components are also reflected in the following updated Project Resources:

  • Standard Component Document Register
  • Standard Component File for Import (to database or BIM platforms)
  • Item Control Schedule (with new item groups, sub-groups and coding – more information to follow)

Note: due to changes to the Room Data Sheet (RDS) content and format, the File for Import has been provided as two separate files. One file provides the information for the Standard Components that are still published in the old RDS format, while the other provides information for the Standard Components that are now published in the new RDS format.  This will be updated progressively as Standard Components are reviewed and re-published until all Standard Components are provided in the new format.

An updated version of the AusHFG Revit Model cannot be provided at this time.
The following Resources do NOT yet reflect the above changes to Standard Components:

  • AusHFG Revit Model (and Shared Parameters)
  • AusHFG IFC Model

Communication to follow shortly regarding model updates.

A thank you is extended to the many user representatives, jurisdictional representatives and consultants who have assisted in the review and production of these resources.

Kind regards,

The AusHFG Team
