HPU136 Non Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit describes the operational, functional and design requirements for the management of consumers requiring a non-acute inpatient mental health admission. The scope of this HPU includes rehabilitation and extended care non acute inpatient mental health services, and low to medium secure forensic services.
An updated revision of HPU136 Non Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit (Revision 3, February 2019) has been uploaded. Key changes to the document include:
- removal of duplicated information included in HPU 131 Mental Health Overarching Guideline, published in March 2018;
- an update of all content including a clearer definition of the scope of this HPU;
- emphasis on design solutions to provide an individualised, home-like and therapeutic environment that supports the restoration of function and transition of consumers back to the community and promotion of self-regulation strategies;
- general update of the schedule of accommodation including update of the bedroom size from 14m2 to 16m2 to align with the revised standard component and to provide additional area for a larger than standard wardrobe, TV and additional storage for longer stay consumers.
